If you are here for the Sakura Design Team Blog Hop and got here from Terri Sproul’s page you are in the right spot!! Or if you just want to see a neat project, but I highly recommend you hit all the Blog Hop pages….some great projects are shared and blog candy is available!!!

I got my days mixed up so this post was late….I am so sorry….I will do a random drawing with extra blog candy for anyone who leaves a comment to help make up for it. Again my apologies. I hope you like the project I created. I got some really neat stuff from Sakura Hobby Craft and decided to play and combine several items to try to get the look of dichroic glass! I used the 3D Crystal Lacquer, Gem Particles and the Jewelry Findings. The only other tool I used was a toothpick.

So the 1st steps on what I did – dab some small drops of the 3D Crystal Lacquer randomly in the jewelry findings then take the toothpick and dip the tip into one of the puddles of crystal lacquer to get it wet. The wet tip will then pick up the gem particles and you use the toothpick to place one color of the gem particles down in all the drops of crystal lacquer. Wait for that to dry and start again adding another group of crystal lacquer dots and a different color of the gem particles.

Keep repeating until the base if full of gem particles in a way that you like! I was completely amazed at how little of the particles you use and how fantastic they look. I have enough in these little packets to make tons and tons of these jewelry pieces if I wanted!!!

Then, once the last layer of particles is dry you will fill the piece with 3D Crystal Lacquer to make the final layer of gloss….it will look milky, that is what it should look like, don’t worry, it will dry clear!

Use your toothpick to pop any air bubbles that show up. A trick for not getting air bubbles is to use continuous flow when filling the jewelry finding, if you start and stop the flow of the crystal lacquer you will introduce air bubbles. Now for the hard part…wait….I recommend overnight….for the crystal lacquer to dry. It will dry clear and you will know when it is dry because you will be able to see no cloudy areas.

Voila! Beautiful jewelry pieces I can’t wait to wear!!! If you want to try your hand at this project I will be teaching it at The Stamp Addict in San Diego in August so give us a call if you want more details on how to sign up for the class.

I started painting inside the lines with different Sakura Hobby Craft Colored Crystal Lacquers.

Well, while I was painting one of the lacquers ‘spilled’ all over my craft area and onto the card base part of the image. I quickly scooped as much of the spilled lacquer back into the tube for later use and then took a moment to look at my ‘ruined’ piece.

Keep in mind I had already spent about 30-40 minutes to draw all the tangle patterns in the Kimono and I really liked the results and didn’t want the piece to go to waste. So I took a page from the teaching of Maria Thomas, co-founder of Zentangle and took the attitude that there are no mistakes….you just go in a new direction when something doesn’t happen the way you envisioned. I took the brush I was using and painted (as quickly as possible) the blue glob all over the rest of the design. Then wiped it all with a wet paper towel to try and even it out as much as possible.

I added a few drops of other colors on top of the blue in different areas to give it more dimension and color. This time not caring if I went ‘outside the lines’. Once the entire piece dried I cut out the kimono using detail scissors.

Then I used the clear Crystal Lacquer on the back as an adhesive using the toothpick to evenly spread the lacquer to all the edges.  I flipped it over and put the piece on my yellow cardbase and voila! A finished card!

I hope you like the end result as much as I do!!! A couple of things you need to remember when working with the Crystal Lacquer…it dries quickly so make sure you are cleaning your paintbrush in between colors and right after you finish painting with them. Also, if you do get a blob of color and have to change what you are doing….make up your mind quickly as this product does dry rather fast!
